How
to get benefit from smoothies
It is important to have a variety
of health beverages in your diet. Today, there are too many people
subsisting on diet sodas, regular sodas, and energy drinks. These
consist mostly of artificial sweeteners, artificial flavoring, and
caffeine. The body will not perform to peak performance with a
steady intake of these types of beverages.
Smoothies are fruit based
concoctions usually blended with milk or yogurt and an unlimited
selection of "add-ons" and blended until smooth. Smoothies
are ultra-fast, convenient, rejuvenating, energizing meal
replacements. If you choose your ingredients carefully, your
smoothie can relieve fatigue and constipation, balance your blood
sugar, establish proper PH levels in your colon, and improve mental
sharpness.
The real beauty of smoothies lies
in their versatility. You can incorporate as many of the
"shoulds" into your smoothie as you like. You
"should" take more Vitamin C. You "should" take
cod liver oil every day. You "should" introduce seaweeds
and algaes into your diet. The "shoulds" are varied and
numerous. A smoothie is a fabulous solution because it is much
easier to pour a teaspoon of cod liver oil into your pineapple
banana smoothie than to drink it solo. The same holds true for many
of the somewhat unpalatable ingredient choices.
Smoothies are a great chance for
you to exercise your personal taste and creativity. You can start
with a bag of frozen berries or hit the produce department for fresh
fruit that you enjoy. Any juicy fruit is a great choice for a
smoothie. Be creative and avoid ingredients that you do not care
for.
My favorite beverage to have in
substitute of a soda is orange smoothies. It tastes good, it is
natural, and is readily available. Orange smoothies provides a good
dose of Vitamin C. An 8 ounce glass contains as much potassium as a
banana. It has a remarkable variety of phytonutrients. Beyond the
great vitamin and nutrient content, a study has shown that orange
juice can lower your blood pressure.
Another great beverage is apple
smoothies. Fresh apple carries a significant amount of Vitamin A and
C. The old time saying that an apple a day can keep the doctor away
is true. Recent studies have shown that drinking apple juice can
help slow down the process that leads to heart disease.
Cranberry smoothies is another
powerful drink that should be added to your diet. Medicinal
properties of the cranberry have been recognized for centuries. It
provides powerful antioxidant qualities. A common treatment for
urinary tract infections is to drink cranberry juice. It is thought
that the strong acidic content of the juice provides an inhospitable
environment for bacteria.
Beyond the standard smoothies, you
can get a bit more exotic. Mango, pineapple, carrot, wheatgrass, and
tomato are all great smoothies that provides wonderful health
benefits.
Any yogurt, milk or kefir will do
the trick but some experts recommend avoiding pasteurization and low
fat dairy products for health reasons so if you are trying to switch
to a raw diet you can use raw milk or make your own raw yogurt to
use in the smoothie. You can also use raw, organic, cage free eggs
for an inexpensive high quality protein boost. If you are a vegan or
want to avoid dairy altogether then use soy milk, rice milk, firm
tofu chunks or simply forgo that aspect of your smoothie altogether.
Grasses have tremendous nutritional
and cleansing properties. You can grow your own wheatgrass and juice
it fresh into your smoothie or you can purchase grass powder
superfoods such as Vitamineral Green which is high in vitamins,
minerals, essential amino acids, chlorophyll, probiotics, and
enzymes.
Some great additions to your
smoothies can include algaes such as ultra cleansing chlorella and
spirulina with 96 trace minerals. Another ingredient that is easiest
eaten in a smoothie is freshly ground flax seed which will provide
you with valuable plant based Omega 3 oils as well as soluble and
insoluble fiber. Keep a coffee grinder next to your smoothie machine
to make sure the flax seed is added to your smoothie immediately
after grinding to prevent oxidation.
Some other ingredients you can try
are ginseng, raw cacao, aloe vera, vegetable powders, coconut oil,
ground nuts such as almonds or walnuts and medicinal herbs such as
cinnamon.
You can purchase plastic take out
cups with lids and straws and leave the house every morning with a
few of your fruit servings out of the way in addition to meeting or
exceeding many of your other nutritional requirements. Smoothies are
a fun, delicious, nutritious way to maximize your health in a
creative way that is limited only by your imagination.
Smoothies are the perfect way to
‘intake’ the vitamins and chemicals that the body needs every
day to function properly. The nutritional value of a smoothie is one
of its major attractions along with the fabulous array of tastes you
can choose. It’s easy to get hooked on one particular flavour, but
as you can usually order them any way you like, with any added
vitamins or supplements or whatever extras you want, you can still
stick to the one you find you like. Smoothies can be one of the best
"Fast Foods" your body can enjoy.
Here are a
few smoothie benefits:
1.
By choosing the right ingredients, a
smoothie can be a great way to cleanse and detoxify your body. This
can help your health generally, but can also be good for conditions
like acne.
2.
Smoothies give you a real energy boost,
not a fake caffeine kick.
3.
They are quick and easy to prepare and are
very mobile -- you can take them with you in the care and drink them
on your way to work or while you run errands.
4.
Fruit is packed with goodness, but it can
be a real chore to eat as much of it as we should. So by drinking
our fruit in a smoothie, we can consume plenty, and do it quickly.
5.
Kids really like them. It is a great way
to give your kids nutritious fruits and vegetables that taste really
good. Your kids probably won't even realize how nutritious they are
- they will suck those smoothies down so fast.
Now you know some of the reasons
why smoothies are good for your health, it's time to get started
preparing your own.In the end, making the perfect, healthy smoothie
is all up to you. It is easier than you think!
