How to make
your smoothies thicker?
How
can I make them thicker?
Experiment
with flavored ice cubes. This is a great way to create a cool and
thick smoothie, full of concentrated flavor. To make, simply pour
the juice, tea, or nectar of your preference into an ice cube tray
and freeze. To make it thick - add more fruit, and ice cream,
crushed ice, or frozen yogurt or sorbet, as opposed to less fruit
and more milk. Keep the base of the milkshake rich in more solids,
rather than liquids. But obviously grind the solids up eventually
which will become thick Also you can whip some heavy cream in a
blender before adding your other ingredients. This will add a lot of
air and volume to your mixture.
Here
is a good smoothie recipe for you to try. Start with your favorite
fruit frozen or fresh. Add one or two scoops of vanilla frozen
yogurt and add a splash of your favorite juice. I like to do a
cranberry, orange juice combo or strawberry and banana, or frozen or
fresh berry combination. Good Luck. One last thing, try to add a
banana to make it fluffy.
Many people find that freezing their fruit before using it in a smoothie is a great way to get a thicker, cooler smoothie than you get by adding ice. If the fruit you plan to use is large, like watermelon, it may be best to chop it into smaller pieces before putting it in the freezer. Freeze the fruit on a plate or piece of aluminum foil, so the pieces don't stick together, and then transfer them to a clean container in the freezer for later
use.
Other
Tips:
Use
frozen fruits like strawberries and peaches, so the frozen part of
it comes pre-made. Adding yogurt and a bit of sugar will help with
sweetness, and you can add milk until you get the desired texture. I
find it's much easier than using ice cubes and it won't taste
watered down if it's sitting for more than ten minutes.
Why does my
smoothie look different after I refrigerate it for a couple hours?
No
smoothie is ever better than in the first few minutes after it's
made. For the best possible flavor and texture, drink them right
away. If you must make them ahead, you'll notice that some smoothies
begin to separate after 20 minutes. If that happens, simply stir it
or put the smoothie back into the blender for a minute to bring it
back to its original consistency.
How
should I handle freezing my fruit for my smoothies?
The
recipes don't always specify, but if you have time to freeze your
fruit beforehand, your smoothie will stay colder and be thicker than
if your fruit was warm. Large fruits (like bananas or melons) should
be chopped into pieces before freezing. Spread the pieces on a plate
or baking sheet while in the freezer. That way they won't freeze
into one big lump. Once frozen, then you can store them together in
a freezer bag or container.
